Bag Monsters at Ghirardelli Square . . .
Each year, Californians use an estimated nineteen (19)
billion plastic bags. On average, that's
about 500 bags per person, per year.
One of the problems is that people throw away these bags
after a single use, so they don't notice how many of
them they've used.
To
paint a powerful picture of just how many bags that is,
we introduce you to the "bag monster" - a costume made of 500
bags. ....And the bag monsters are convening in record
numbers on 12 August in San Francisco's Ghirardelli
Square.
California Bill, AB 1998 would ban single-use plastic
bags in California for good! As senators gather this August to
vote, we need to make sure we are heard and that this bill passes!
We need YOU to come out and show your support, and
better yet, to wear a Bag Monster costume on Thursday,
12 August 2010 @ Ghirardelli Square
in San Francisco at the "Don't Feed the Bag Monster"
event.
Our friends at ChicoBag will provide the costume,
a free reusable bag, snacks, and water. Join us
as we let the State know that we
are fed up with the unnecessary waste of single-use
bags!
