Off to a Great Start! . . .
Friday, 05 February 2010 ------------------------------------- Contents: - SFOFF - Sharks in the Park - Our World Underwater - Newsletter Contest ------------------------------------- Hello, fellow ocean lovers! The year is off to a quick start, and we already have an exciting lineup of events. --- - San Francisco Ocean Film Festival --- The 7th annual SFOFF has just begun. This year's festival promises some exciting new changes, including a new venue: Theater 39 (Embarcadero and Beach Street). The lineup of films looks great, including the Academy Award nominated film, The Cove. On Saturday morning (06 February), the shark block of films (program 6), will be followed by a panel discussion on ocean sustainability, from fishing to consumption. The panel will be held at the neighboring Aquarium of the Bay, and will feature sustainable seafood industry leaders and notable conservationists including our own Executive Director. --- - Sharks in the park --- Last year's Sharks in the Park event with WildAid was a great success, and we're excited to do it again! This year's event coincides with the Flower Fair, which precedes Chinese New Year, so attendance is expected to be greater. We'll be unveiling some new messaging at this event, and we are expecting that it will be even more effective than previous campaigns. Come celebrate with us, and lend a hand to save some fins! We'll be meeting at 11am on Sunday, 07 February at Portsmouth Square in the heart of San Francisco's Chinatown. The event will run until 3pm, which leaves plenty of time for those of you headed to Super Bowl parties. Look for our table and the giant (life-sized) inflatable shark. For directions and more information, please visit: http://coare.org/events/sharksinthepark/ --- - Our World Underwater --- We were invited to take part in the Our World Underwater show in Chicago, one of the premier consumer dive shows in the US. The show runs from 19-21 February, at the Donald Stephens Convention Center. If you're planning to attend the show, come visit us at booth #619, and check out the seminar we're giving on Saturday. For more information, visit www.ourworldunderwater.com. --- - Newsletter Contest --- Sometimes it seems like the hardest part about writing this newsletter is coming up with a clever title each month. We've been considering a few different ideas, but would like to get your input as well... so we've decided to hold a contest. Please submit newsletter title suggestions to info@coare.org. The winning submission will earn a prize. --- Please feel free to share this newsletter with friends, family, and colleagues. If you received this newsletter second hand, we encourage you to subscribe directly by visiting http://coare.org/subscribe Wishing you healthy oceans, - Your friends at COARE ========================== P.S.: We encourage you to add info@coare.org to your addressbook to facilitate delivery of our newsletter to your inbox.
